Law Reform

The ACLC works to safeguard human rights through law reform since changing the laws and the ways they are enforced are often the best means of ensuring that rights and protections are observed.

As part of its commitment to law reform, the ACLC analyzes governmental and authoritative structures and institutions whose policies could have a negative impact on the African Canadian community. This function of the ACLC contributes to the development of equitable laws and the enforcement of rights through preventative action and negotiation. In fulfilling its law reform mandate, the ACLC has regularly made written and oral submissions before legal and administrative bodies such as the following:

• Federal Standing Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs
