Landlord-Tenant Issues

The Tenant Protection Act is the main law establishing rules for residential tenants and landlords in Ontario. The Act deals with questions of prime concern to tenants, such as:

  • How high can landlords raise rents?
  • What are the grounds for eviction?
  • How can tenants ensure that landlords maintain apartment buildings in a good state of repair?

Under the Tenant Protection Act, the independent Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal resolves disputes concerning evictions, rent increases, and other landlord-tenant issues.
